The Story

This coffee comes from Baroida Estate, nestled in the lush Aiyura Valley of Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands. Founded in the 1960s by Ben Colbran, the estate is now run by his son Nicol and grandsons Chris and Rhett, continuing a family legacy that has shaped the region’s coffee landscape for decades.

The name “Baroida” derives from a local spirit said to inhabit a steadfast river stone that has resisted centuries of floods—an emblem of strength and resilience mirrored in the estate itself.

Covering 220 hectares divided into carefully managed plots, Baroida coffee reflects a meticulous approach to cultivation and processing. Each harvest is sorted and processed separately, pulped and fermented for around 36 hours before washing and drying. The result is a washed coffee that shines with clarity, balance, and a vibrant expression of Papua New Guinea’s distinctive highlands terroir.
